Psychotherapy – statutory health insurance

The federal republic of Germany belongs to the few countries in the world in which psychotherapy is defined as an “Antragsleistung” of the statutory health insurance. This is why psychotherapy in form of behavioral therapy, depth psychology and psychoanalysis is completely being paid by the statutory health insurance. My practice is equipped with an insurance license. For that reason all the costs for your therapy will be paid by your health insurance. The statutory health insurances usually have a favorable attitude towards psychotherapeutic treatment. Constitutionally, 3 consultation and 4 practice sessions are due to you which you can use to examine whether the therapeutic range of services suits you or not. These sessions are cost-free for you as a legally insured client, can be made use of with different therapists as often as you want to and can accounted for without any problems. In the next step, in case you decide to keep on working with me psychotherapeutically, I will make an application for you at your health insurance. The statutory health insurances grant different kinds of therapies depending on the request: 24 (short-term therapy), 60 (long-term therapy) or maximally 80 sessions (long-term therapy – continuation). The granted sessions have to be exploited completely and psychotherapy can also be cancelled anytime. Thus, there is no obligation on your side. After finishing the treatment a mandatory therapeutic pause period of 2 years has to be considered. In the meantime you can make use of counseling interviews (3 per quarter) that are also being paid by the statutory health insurance.

Psychotherapy – private health insurance

Most private insurances pay the costs of a psychotherapeutic treatment. The conditions for meeting the costs as well as for the maximum number of sessions depend on the particular drafting of the contract.  Therefore, it is advisable to get information about your personal contracts conditions timely. All of the necessary formalities are being communicated to you by your private health insurance. I take it for granted to support you in case of an application.

Psychotherapy – Financial assistance

Costs for the therapy are principally being paid. Normally, 40 sessions will be authorized at first and – if necessary – 40 more in a second step, so that you can make use of 80 sessions in total. For this purpose, an insurance verification request has to be made within the first five practice sessions. In addition, I have to prepare an expert opinion. Under certain circumstances a short-term therapy (10 sessions) can be requested without an expert opinion. You can get the forms that are needed as well as further information at the responsible benefits office. I take it for granted to support you in case of an application.

Psychotherapy – Self-pay patients

Furthermore, it is possible for you to pay for the costs of the psychotherapy yourself. In this case, the costs are calculated based on the current valid fees regulations of psychological psychotherapists and therapists for children and adolescents (Gebührenordnung für Psychologische Psychotherapeuten und Kinder- und Jugendlichentherapeuten (GOP)).

Coaching

The costs for coaching and supervision are negotiated in individual cases and are determined by purpose and extent of the counseling.

Relationship counseling

Relationship counseling and –therapy is neither a service of the statutory nor of the private health insurances. Therefore, the costs are negotiated in individual cases and are determined by the purpose and the extent of the counseling. Normally, these fees are based on the current valid fees regulations of psychological psychotherapists and therapists for children and adolescents (Gebührenordnung für Psychologische Psychotherapeuten und Kinder- und Jugendlichentherapeuten (GOP)).

Psychological assessment

Normally, these fees are based on the current valid fees regulations of psychological psychotherapists and therapists for children and adolescents (Gebührenordnung für Psychologische Psychotherapeuten und Kinder- und Jugendlichentherapeuten (GOP)) or, in case of a judicial request, based on the schedule of fees under the Law on Payment and Compensation by Judiciary Authorities (Justizvergütungs- und Entschädigungsgesetzt (JVEG)).
